Halifax Shimmy Mob 2013

We’re dancing for a cause! On Saturday, May 11, 2013 teams of dancers all over the world will be dancing the same choreography to raise funds for women’s shelters, and awareness for the art of belly dance. A group of women from dance studios all over HRM are coming together to dance for a cause. Please support them on Saturday as they perform our Shimmy Mob choreography at multiple locations in Halifax to raise funds for Bryony House!

Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon Charity Challenge

Bryony House Excited for the Upcoming 2013 Raising the Roof Campaign

Bryony House has been helping women in our community who are homeless as a result of intimate partner violence for almost 35 years. We were very happy to jump on board to be a part of the Raising the Roof Campaign this year to help raise awareness of the issues around homelessness and funds for needed programs in the community. Press Release: Bryony House Seeks Help from Dads to End Intimate Partner Violence

One in four women is a victim of intimate partner violence. What would you do to ensure your child is not impacted? Bryony House has a new fundraiser planned for 2013, and are seeking help from dads.

Bryony House invites dads or men in a parental role to submit a story be considered for publication in “Devoted Dads”, a book of love and wisdom, to be published in 2013. The funds raised from the book will go to help provide programs and services for women and children impacted by intimate partner violence. If you are a dad, and want to share your story of steering your child away from being impacted by or perpetrating violence, we would love to hear from you.

The aim of the book is to exemplify the effect of being a positive male figure and a role model in someone’s life. If you are a dad or male in a parental role, and have a positive story to tell you are welcome to make a submission. The stories will highlight the importance of warmth, respect, and caring within familial relationships.

Dads greatly impact the future of their children, by being positive role models teaching valuable life lessons and providing positive influences. “Men influence how young men see and treat females in their lives,” explains Laurie Ehler, executive director of Bryony House. “It is imperative that positive male role models step up and actively participate in the lives of young men, helping to end the cycle of violence.”A cycle of respect begins within the family; boys and girls model the behaviour patterns to which they are exposed. Young men, who see and learn from other men treating women and children with respect, can come to understand the importance of this behaviour.

Submissions must be received no later than October 31, 2012. They can be mailed to 3399 Novalea Drive, Halifax, NS B3K 3E6 or e-mailed to funddev@bryonyhouse.ca.
